"What Is Your Favourite Part Of The School Day?..." Part Two: Ruby on Poppy

Welcome to the next part of: TWIN vs TWIN: PART TWO: RUBY ON POPPY   In case you missed it...last week I asked Poppy 10 questions about Ruby and then I asked Ruby the same questions to compare their answers. They got 4 matches from the 10 questions and, as their Dad, I found it very interesting. This week I have done the reverse and I have asked Ruby the same 10 questions about Poppy then asked Poppy her answers to compare.    Here are the results:   Q1: What is Poppy's favourite part of the school day? Ruby: Playing with *best friend* Poppy: Playing with *best friend* Q2: What is Poppy's favourite thing to eat? Ruby: Sausages Poppy: Sausages Q3: What is Poppy's favourite flavour of ice cream? Ruby: Chocolate Poppy: Chocolate Q4: What is Poppy's favourite song? Ruby: "How Far I'll Go" from "Moana" Poppy: "Touch The Sky" from "Brave" Q5: What is Poppy's favourite movie? Ruby: Real L

"Kate...It's On My Lips"

I think I have hit that stage of blogging where I need to share my stories related to every parents favourite subject...POO!!! We all have our own poop related stories when it comes to our kids. Some are quite tame, some are worrying and some are just downright disgusting and could easily put people off ever having kids! I have three stories I would like to share with you: 1: CONSTIPATED This one is not such a fun story. When the twins were just a couple of weeks old they developed constipation. It was a tough time as they were so uncomfortable and there was nothing we could do about it. I did what all new parents do and turned to the most reliable source ever...Google! Google gave us some ideas that we tried including: 1) Gently massaging their stomachs in a clockwise motion 2) Giving them some boiled, cooled down water (which they thought was POISON) 3) Moving their legs in a "cycling" motion to try and stimulate a movement 4) Giving them a warm bath O

"What Is Your Favourite Part Of The School Day?..." Part One: Poppy on Ruby

One of my fellow "Dadsquad" members recently posted an article on his blog where he asked his son 15 questions. It is a great read and can be found on his site...   http://www.onehullofadad.co.uk/2017/03/15-things-ive-learnt-about-my-son.html It got me thinking about the twins and how much of this stuff I know about them which then got me thinking to how much they know about each other. So I have totally stolen his idea (don't worry, he knows), tweaked it and used it to quiz the twins and see what they say. This is the first part in which I asked Poppy questions about Ruby  and then asked Ruby the same questions. Welcome to what I like to call: TWIN vs TWIN: PART ONE: POPPY ON RUBY To do this I took Poppy away from Ruby and asked her these questions about her sister - I then asked Ruby the same questions to see if any of them matched up. Here are my findings:  Q1: What is Ruby's favourite part of the school day? Poppy: Playing with *best friend*

"Let Me Be The First To Congratulate You..."

It is amazing how much your conversations with people can change when you find out your are having a baby - even more so when you find out you are having two. Before we had the twins I would have conversations with the following people about the following things: KATE 1. What we were having for breakfast / lunch / dinner 2. How our day at work had been 3. Which supermarkets have Strongbow on offer 4. Which supermarkets have wine on offer 5. If we have enough money to buy Strongbow and wine 6. What movies we want to watch that week 7. What TV shows we want to watch that week 8. How annoying people are on "Come Dine With Me" 9. What we would do on "Come Dine With Me" 10. That we should maybe host a "Come Dine With Me" night with our friends 11. F*** that - let's buy pizza instead and get drunk 12. If we have enough money to buy pizza PARENTS (MINE AND KATES) 1. When we are available for breakfast / lunch / dinner 2. How work has

My Top 10 Activities To Do With The Kids

One of my favourite things about being a Dad has to be the activities I get to do together with my family. Over the past 6 years I have experienced lots of different activities. Some of these were great and I do them regularly and some have been terrible that I never want to do again! This post is about the good ones so here is my "Top Ten"... 1) The Park I love a good park! In the NE of England we have an abundance of good parks which I'll regularly take the twins to. The thing I love about going to the park is that the twins get to run about in the fresh air, they socialise with other kids and its free! I also love a park that I can play in too. If it's got things to climb and giant slides I'm in there with the kids. The twins in the park 2) The Cinema I'm a huge movie fan and I genuinely believe the only way to truly experience a movie is by going to the cinema. Sure, I watch movies at home with the twins but nothing beats the big s

"That'll Give Them Something To Talk About"

There are hundreds of questions that people will ask a pregnant person but one of the ones that I really don't like is: "Was it planned?"   Personally I don't think it matters if a pregnancy was planned or unplanned as long as the end result is a healthy baby who is entering a loving family and will receive the love, care and nurturing that a baby needs. When Kate and I were asked if our pregnancy was planned I generally just shrugged my shoulders and said "I guess so" or "Kind of" as that is exactly what it was. We weren't a couple who were desperate for a baby and were monitoring ovulation dates and going at it like bunnies in the hopes that we would reproduce but more of a couple who decided that we would just stop using protection and see what happened - although I am not exactly sure what else could happen! We were pretty lucky and it didn't take long and only a few months later we found out that Kate was pregnant with our fir

"Grandma...Can We Have A Sleepover?"

When you find out you are having a baby it is a surreal feeling. When you find out that you are having two at the same time it is even more surreal!! We found out, like most parents, at our 12 week scan and once we had told our family and close friends we announced it to the world via Facebook. We received mainly positive reactions from everybody as most people would write comments like: " That is amazing news " or " Congratulations. So happy for you both " or " Double the babies means double the love " And so on. But there were the odd comments we received that I chose to ignore at first but I didn't forget them and they pondered in my mind for months on end. They were the comments like: " Say goodbye to ever sleeping again " and " Prepare to never have any money for the rest of your life. Babies are expensive and two at once is even more expensive " and " My friend has twins and he had a nervous breakdown when t

"Morning Dad! Can We Have Pancakes?"

Earlier this year at the back end of January 2017 I was pulling an "All Weekender" at work. This means I start work at 7am Saturday morning and I won't finish until 7am Monday morning. As always when I am on this shift I woke up at 6am to get myself ready and sorted for work and, as always, I tried to be as quiet as I could be so that I didn't wake the twins up. This is not an easy task for me as I am, according to my wife, "like a pet elephant" and apparently it is more obvious when I am trying NOT to be like a pet elephant. But, like I say, I generally try my hardest not to wake the kids, however...I failed! I pulled back the shower curtain at 6:06am to see Ruby, one of the twins, sitting on the toilet with a massive smile on her face as she shouted "MORNING DAD! CAN WE HAVE PANCAKES?" I'd like to meet the parents who have time to do this! I am not sure what it was about that exact moment in time but as I stood there naked as the day I
